I really loved this week’s sketch from Freshly Made Sketches. The design team’s cards are gorgeous and the gallery has so many awesome cards posted. Here is the sketch for this week:

FMS Final 193-001

I had been feeling as though I didn’t have enough of a selection of stamps to keep my card challenges varied (I’m sure no one out there feels like this – LOL) until I remembered I had a few retired stamps in the cabinet which are out-of-sight and out-of-mind. I chose my color palette of Watermelon Wonder and DSP paper from the Cherry On Top paper stack. I accented the card with Watermelon Wonder ribbon.

You might think this was a quick card for me, but that was not the case. I started out doing just fine. I had first stamped the chicks with the Momento ink and used some Blendabilities but the lightest blue I used was too dark and I couldn’t get it to blend with the color lifter pen. So, I re-stamped the chicks with my Staz-On and used Stampin’ Write Markers along with watercoloring for the background.

Next step, a sentiment. I had a great idea, I thought, I’ll add a die-cut “thanks” at the bottom of the card in Tip Top Taupe. Once I cut it out, it was too wide which required me cutting some of the letters apart and gluing them together with less space in between each letter at the bottom of the card. Ok, it didn’t look great (the word was too large and overwhelmed the card), but I was going to go with it until I . . . . . decided to stamp the chicken feet as a signature at the bottom of the card. Oh good grief, it just looked like a jumbled mess. Then, I had the bright idea of cutting out the thanks, meaning fussy cutting behind all the letters to keep the thanks on the white card stock because I knew I couldn’t pull it off without tearing all the letters (I used the liquid Mono glue – can I get an Amen?). As I’m sitting there cutting the word out, I think, “You know, I could have re-cut this die word at least five times in the time I’ve sat here cutting this word out.”  Hmmm. “Why don’t I just use the word that goes with the chicks?” Hmmm. I did just that and I’m very happy I did. This card looks sooooo much better than the original. I hope you enjoy it and PIN it.

I wanted to complete a Center Step fold technique card this month. I began with a card stock choice of Cucumber Crush and Watermelon Wonder.  I, then, made my cuts and scores and suddenly thought maybe one of the card challenges this week incorporates some of what I was including in the card. I began to browse through the sites of the card challenges I like to submit and low and behold there are my colors with the addition of Night of Navy on the Pals Paper Arts weekly challenge!  So, now, I feel like I’m killing two birds with one stone!!! Yippee!! 6a00e54f95df92883401b7c7a76b46970b-800wi

I think the Night of Navy really adds a lot of dimension as a mat choice. As you can see in the card pictures below, there is a border on the vertical mat at the bottom of the card. This was a case of being given an opportunity to embellish. Yes, I made a boo boo. I scored ALL the way across when I should have scored only to the cut line. I’m really bad at watching and reading directions. LOL

I thought a bright birthday theme with a yummy cupcake would be just right for this card; and, as I was putting the card together, I realized I didn’t have to keep my banners within the confines of the white mat. How liberating! I really love this card.

I took a picture of the side view so the cuts and folds would be showcased as well.

While looking for inspiration for card challenges, I came across Virginia’s View Challenge. I had just completed a monochromatic card for my next make-n-take, and I decided to enter this challenge. She specified Ombre & Monocromatic and gave a couple of examples:

I think these cards are gorgeous!

For my regular blog readers this card was featured as a Paper Craft Crew Challenge as well (might as well kill two birds with one stone). Here is one of June’s make-n-take cards as well as Virginia’s View Challenge:

This week Freshly Made Sketches #190 features this card sketch:

FMS Final 190-001

As you will see, I just can’t get enough of the new SU! 2015-2017 In-Colors. For my interpretation of the card sketch, I chose the Sprinkles of Life SU! stamp set and featured an ice cream cone topped with scoops of Delightful Dijon, Cucumber Crush, and Watermelon Wonder. I placed the ice cream cone on an oval mat I created by sponging Daffodil Delight ink onto the Whisper White oval cardstock. I created a background with the sunburst stamp from Perpetual Birthday Calendar stamp set and then accented with a panel of DSP from the Cherry On Top DSP paper stack. “Sweet Moments” seemed an appropriate sentiment from the Project Life stamp set Remember This.

Freshly Made Sketches #189 is a great sketch to feature the new Stampin’ Up! In-Colors along with the new Envelope Paper.

FMS Final 189I am having an SU! catalog open house and I wanted a clean and simple card to showcase the new 2015-2017 In-Colors. I used the striped side of the Mint Macaron envelope paper for the circle; then, I stamped the flower from You’ve Got This in Mint Macaron on Whisper White and matted the stamped image askew onto a solid piece of Mint Macaron. I added a sentiment from You’ve Got This in Mint Macaron on a Whisper White banner. Very monochromatic. I plan on using this card sketch and duplicating this card in all of the five new In-Colors as a quick make-n-take at the catalog open-house. I’m sure all of my stampers will LOVE this design as well as the new In-Colors and stamp sets I will be featuring.
