Hello! I have just created my first post to the Little Blue Button Blog. I am so excited to share with you the card I created using Steam Punk Jessica

I colored Jessica using Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers. Once she was colored and cut out, I collected two Gel Press pieces of cardstock from my stash to use in making the card.

Next, I gathered other supplies for this creation.

I wanted to incorporate gears onto the Gel Press pieces of cardstock and used a FSJ stencil to apply Pumpkin Bread and Haystack inks to the stencil leaving a faint impression of gears.

Gold glitter washi tape from the discount aisle at Tuesday Morning was placed under the die cut border. The final touch was a sprinkling of FSJ Bronze silk.

To complete the card, I placed Jessica on a Haystack cardstock oval mat. The card is finally accented with Candy Drops. This card turned out so beautiful. I hope you like it.

Here is Round Two of the Gel Press Throwdown between Carrie Rhoades and myself. Just a brief review, we sent each other what we considered “ugly” Gel Press pulls and our challenge was to make something beautiful out of the “ugly ducklings”. So, make sure to check out her blog carriestamps.com to see the creations she has made from my “ugly” Gel Press pulls. Here is the link for Round one on my blog http://martyzstamps.com/2018/08/27/gel-press-challenge-round-one-fms351-sketch-challenge/.

I forgot to take a picture of the pull before I started adding to it. Carrie was gracious enough to send me a photo of a piece of the original pull. It is not the actual piece but it will give you and idea of what I started with. Here it is.

I took the original pull and placed it in my spraying box (a box to use silks, splashes and splattering to contain any over mist). I placed our Vintage Screen on top of the pull. I then spritz it with our Shimmer Silver Splash. You can see the design on the bottom photo.

I stamped the guitar/tree with River Stone at the top and Rock Candy at the bottom using my Misti to get the right amount of ink onto the paper. I used Journey Glaze to create a sheen on the guitar and once the glaze was dry, I painted some Sparkle Silk onto the guitar and tree branches for a hint of glitz. I placed the guitar on the Gel Press background to decide what I wanted to do next. Since there was already a hint of Cool Pool acrylic paint on the pull, I decided to spritz the card with the Cool Pool Splash. At first I wanted to keep a circular space in the middle free of Cool Pool color; so I placed a piece of scrap paper on the background and spritzed the paper. Once this was dry, I happened to spy some Cool Pool cardstock and thought that would make an awesome mat. I grabbed it and put some Blue Lagoon ink on the Flannel Life background stamp and stamped the image on the circle which I ran through the die machine with the piercing die to give it some interest. I took the circle and spritzed it with the Shimmer Silver Splash. While all of this was drying, I stamped the sentiment in Whip Cream onto Black Licorice cardstock and embossed with White Embossing Powder. Then, a little splatter of Silver Silk.

After everything was dry, I began assembling the card. I chose River Stone as the base with a Rock Candy mat. I cut down the Gel Press background, added the circle and sentiment with the guitar popped up using foam squares. This was adhered to the base with foam squares. I think this turned into an amazing card. Remember, there are no “ugly” pulls!!!!

What do I like the best about the Freshly Made Sketches card challenges? I must preface this with the majority of my cards are not clean and simple. I just can’t help adding and adding and adding; well, I guess you can see where this is going. And, this is why I really enjoy the FMS card challenges. I am challenged to create a simple and clean card. This week’s challenge is Jen Mitchell’s “All About the Angles”.

A digitized sunflower is featured on my challenge card. I first saw this sunflower in a collection of sunflowers featured on Instagram by Junior Aguilar a very accomplished artist as well as a tattoo artist in the Atlanta, GA area (Instagram @jr_aguila_mk_v). I immediately thought these would look beautiful colored and placed on a card. He was gracious enough to print them off for me along with some gorgeous roses.

This week’s FMS #327 sketch is below:

This was a super simple card to create. It began with the digitized sunflower which I colored with Fun Stampers Journey Color Burst Pencils. I added some texture in the center of the flower with a fine tip Sharpie pen. To give it a little shine, I added FSJ Journey Glaze to the center.

The base is FSJ Whip Cream cardstock with a mat created from FSJ Summer Sun cardstock cut at an angle. I stamped the sentiment from last month’s Bloom Box at the top of the card with FSJ Black Licorice ink. It was just that quick and simple.

There is a background story to this creation. I have an Instagram account @martyzstamps, and I wanted to share an image I colored with the artist that (I thought) created a digi-stamp I had purchased several months ago. Well, it wasn’t her image; and boy, did I really feel embarrassed. So, I went back to Etsy and did a search for JuliaSpiri. Of course, I found several digi-stamps to use on future projects.  I’m sure you know where I’m going with this . . . . Yep, JuliaSpiri Etsy store had just the digi-stamp image I needed to complete this challenge.

As luck would have it, Paper Craft Crew Challenge #279 this week is a Mardi Gras themed card and this girl from JuliaSpiri  Romantic Fantasy – The Venice Collection – The Mask of Peacock is perfect for this challenge.

Since Mardi Gras is all about the party with glitz and glamour, I created a shaker card to get the party started . . . shake, shake, shake . . . shake your . . . well, whatever you got shake it!  Let me just stop this party to say check out the card below. The featured color scheme are those traditional Mardi Gras colors of purple, green and yellow, which make her pop right off the card. The  Fun Stampers Journey Color Burst Pencils were the perfect coloring tool to create nice blended shading on the digi-stamp image.  She is just too elegantly adorable! So much fun!

Let me know in the comments if you have ever been to a Mardi Gras celebration and whether you liked it or not.

Last week was the second class in how to create beautiful backgrounds using Fun Stampers Journey (FSJ) 8 1/2 x 11 Gel Press (JM-0107) and FSJ Liquid Colors. After we finished creating some backgrounds with the planned class format, we just had fun experimenting with some stencils, bubble wrap, liquid color and the Gel Press. After everyone left, I stacked the backgrounds I created and went about my everyday weekly routine. That is until I saw the Freshly Made Sketches #323 Sketch Challenge.

When I saw this sketch, the light bulb went off in my head, and I knew exactly the card I was going to create. One of the Gel Press background pulls I created used the FSJ Chevron Stencil (JM-0011), some bubble wrap and River Stone liquid color (IP-0138). The chevron and the bubble wrap pulls were two separate pulls using FSJ Whip Cream card stock as the base (CS-0040) and for this card, I married them together by cutting each piece into fourths as shown in the sample sketch above. Once I had adhered them to the mat, I knew this was a marriage made in heaven. I then found a floral piece I had colored with Spectrum Noir markers from the FSJ Summer Garden stamp set (SS-0078) and added it to the design with a medium Foam Square (AD-0085). I used the “Thinking of You” sentiment from the Storybook Occasions stamp set (SS-0538), and the finishing touch was to place the mat on a base of FSJ Rock Candy card stock (CS-0031).

I think this card turned out so elegant.
