If you read the first post for the first card I entered for the SUO Challenge #136, you will recognize this is the second entry based on the title of the blog. Sometimes, I come up with original ideas for my Christmas make-n-takes and sometimes I use Pinterest when my brain just can’t be creative anymore. This is an original card based on many cards on Pinterest. There’s not too many ways you can have a fireplace with stockings on a card other than changing the color scheme. This is my favorite card out of all seven designs offered at my make-n-takes.

Again, if you read my first post, you can see Cherry Cobbler is a central focus of this card as it is one of my favorite SU! colors. I think the Crumb Cake wainscoat really sets the card up to make the fireplace/mantel really pop. Since you can’t hold this card in your hand and see all of the 3D detail, I’ll give you the run down on what is popped and what is not. Everything has dimensionals on it except the background mats, the inside of the fireplace and the bow on the wreath. I used SU! Festive Fireplace Photopolymer Bundle to make this card. I stamped the fireplace with Staz-on black ink onto Cherry Cobbler and went back through with Whisper White and Pretty in Pink Craft inks to highlight the bricks (I used a q-tip). I cut the center of the fireplace out and placed a piece of Basic Gray in the opening (I think it makes the flames stand out). The flames are watercolored and the logs are stamped onto Chocolate Chip paper with some watercolor shading. The stockings were colored with Stampin’ Write Markers. The wreath was stamped using Mossy Meadow on Pear Pizzaz (I think – better double-check that before my class this Saturday or I used Garden Green ink) and has a splash of glitz using the Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details from SU! The cat was stamped on Smoky Slate and sponged with Basic Gray. I love the cat, It makes me think of my friend Cindy Hilton and her love for ALL things cats. I did use the framelits to cut out the fireplace, mantle, and cat, but I didn’t like having a “huge” border; so, I either trimmed all the way down to the stamped line or trimmed very close to the stamped image. I can’t forget to mention the top background mat of Cherry Cobbler is stamped with the SU! retired background stamp Netting; it just gives the top part of the card a little depth. The bottom background of Crumb Cake was embossed using the SU! Stripes embossing folder.

Well, I think the above description of how I made the card sums it up. Love it!

Supplies: Note – to make a pink craft ink combine a drop of Cherry Cobbler reinker to a spoon size amount of Whisper White Craft re-inker and blend – adjust as necessary to get desired color.

It has been a few weeks since I last posted. In that time, I had a Christmas Stamp-a-Stack make-n-take, our group of stampers had our four day weekend Stamp Camp, and my family had Thanksgiving at my daughter’s new home with family and friends. On top of this, I will be having a Christmas card make-n-take featuring more detailed cards, which take a good bit longer to make than the stamp-a-stack cards (I will have separate posts on all these card events I have mentioned).

I have been wanting to post to a card challenge in this time, but I have been very busy and didn’t have time to come up with a “this week” idea. So, I was very pleased to see SUO Challenge 136 where I could enter some of my original Christmas (favorite holiday colors) card ideas. The first card I’m going to feature is a snowman card. I have to have at least one snowman card every year for my Christmas make-n-take classes.

I think the Hearth and Home thinlits are one of the most versatile thinlits EVER! I combine this thinlit with the Perfect Pine Framelits, the Softly Falling embossing folder, Brick Wall Texture embossing folder, and the retired SU! stamp set Snow Much Fun. Some of my favorite colors to use for Christmas cards are Cherry Cobbler, any of the SU! green card stocks, Whisper White (of course), and Real Red. This card took a little bit of time to make, but I think it was worth the effort. Ooops, I forgot to mention this was one of the Christmas Stamp-a-Stack cards. Just too cute!

Wow, it has been a while since I have posted a card creation. I have been super busy with my part-time job,
getting paper cut and supplies pulled together for my annual Christmas Stamp-a-Stack, creating a game
for our annual Stamp Camp long weekend get-a-way. By the end of the day, I’m so tired I can’t think. I’m sure
most of you reading this have been where I am and know what I’m talking about. No brain thinky = no creativity.

Anyway, I’m posting to Paper Craft Crew Card Challenge #169. Of course, I couldn’t think of anything other than
a Christmas theme. I’ve been in Christmas theme mode for five or six weeks. There are so many awesome SU!
Christmas Cards on Pinterest. Pin, Pin, Pin, . . . . . . and, one of my favorite Holiday items is the edgelit Sleigh Ride set.
LOVE IT! Needless to say, I made a card for this week’s sketch using this set. Here is the PCCCS169 sketch.

I took Island Indigo and made it my base mat along with the decorative tab and mat for the sleigh rider and horse. I used some retired DSP for the bottom portion of the second mat with Whisper White at the top. The ribbon is retired double-stitched Regal Rose. I cut out the trees in Silver Glimmer paper ’cause every Christmas card needs a little bling. I accented the sleigh ride scene with a Snowflake Element wooden snowflake covered in liquid glue and dipped in Dazzling Diamonds glitter. This is a cute, simple card. I hope you enjoy it!

Supplies: Retired SU! paper (please feel free to let me know the name of the DSP paper and I’ll update the post), retired SU! Regal Rose double-stitched ribbon.

This week’s Paper Craft Crew Card Challenge #165 is featuring the Hearth and Home Thinlit set. I love this set. It is so versatile and just makes the most darn cute cards you have ever seen. The card sketch is below:

I am having a December Christmas Card make-n-take. Each stamper will be making two each of three designs which are detailed and require extra time to complete. I had completed, I thought, one of the cards for this make-n-take, but once I saw this week’s card sketch, I changed a few things.

This is a 6″ x 6″ shaker card. Yes, it will snow on the sleigh rider if you shake the card up and down. If you shake it sideways you have created a blizzard for the poor horse and rider to endure. This card had initially started off as a regular 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ card, but the double window took up the entire card and it just didn’t look “right.” I decided to make it a 6″ x 6″, which allows for a sentiment (card change from sketch).

I cut the sleigh rider out of SU! Whisper White and set it aside to create the evening background. I used a piece of Whisper White card stock for the background. I punched a circle to mask where the moon would be and then, I sponged on retired SU! Midnight Muse (Night of Navy would work) on the outer edges and Coastal Cabana in the center to add some light. I stamped the top portion of the trees from the new Wonderland stamp set in Midnight Muse (there are trees on both sides – the left side is obscured by glitter sticking to the acetate sheet I used for the window panes. I cut a double window out of Sahara Sand (first go-around was Very Vanilla, it really left the card looking washed out). I added a little glitter to the background piece after placing the sled and other hill onto it. Now, here is where things got a little dicey. I tried using the circle dimensionals.  Well, that tended to be a problem, because the dimensionals naturally curved, they are very thin, and don’t close the gaps between them very well. Needless to say, I had “glitter leak”. What a pain!!!! I tried squirting the new clear fine tip glue in the gaps, but I can say that did not work. I, eventually, went to Lowe’s and bout mounting tape, which I will cut in half and double. Oh, the joys of cardmaking snags.

Anywhoo, The top portion of the interior wall is SU! DSP from WAY BACK WHEN I can’t remember. It just look appropriate. Lost Lagoon is the bottom portion and it was embossed with SU! retired stripes embossing folder. I stamped the sentiment in Cherry Cobbler on Very Vanilla and ran it through the Big Shot with a banner die (oops! didn’t put that on the purchase list) and matted it with Cherry Cobbler card stock. I accented the sentiment with Gold Cording Trim. All of this is matted on Early Espresso.

Hope you enjoy!

For some reason, I have missed the last two Pals Paper Arts card challenges by a few hours. But, I’m super excited to submit a card to PPA #268 Card Challenge today.

PPA268

This card is a quick and simple Christmas card using SU! Festive Flurry stamp set. I stamped the large snowflake in Pacific Point, the medium sized snowflake in Bermuday Bay, and the small snowflake in Coastal Cabana. I added stampin’ dimensionals and rhinestones to give the stamped image depth and eye-candy. The sentiment is stamped in Pacific Point using SU! Greetings of the Season stamp set.
