Freshly Made Sketches #186

A great Monday morning to play with Freshly Made Sketches #186. Here is the FMS186 sketch:

This past week was a very hectic week as well as this weekend, and I had a major mental block trying to design cards for the current card challenge websites I like to play. Well, I woke up this morning and double checked the deadline for the FMS186 challenge and voila, I had an idea. I love the clean and simple lines of this card. And, I’m excited to be using some of the new SU! 2015-2017 In-Colors!

Note: If you look closely you can see where I scored the card stock to create two diagonal lines (the lighting doesn’t capture the scored lines very well). I also embossed the crazy circle lines with gold embossing powder.

SUO Card Challenge #121: Mother’s Day

I missed the last SUO Card Challenge; so, I made sure I had my card finished ahead of time. What a great card challenge to celebrate the mothers in our lives. My mother was a very sweet person and a crafting whiz in her own rights. Her area of expertise was sewing. She could sew anything. In fact, she made slipcovers for her sofa and it looked upholstered (in other words, she was REALLY good at sewing).

For this challenge, along with the Mother’s Day theme I chose to use a color challenge from another website. The colors for their challenge are: Calypso Coral, Crushed Curry, and Pool Party. I also wanted to use a stamp set I rarely use but really like. I chose the Peachy Keen SU! stamp set. Once I started on the card, I realized I didn’t have any Crushed Curry cardstock; so, I went digging in my DSP stash and used the Crushed Curry background paper from Color Me Autumn. I guess there’s more than one way to skin a cat. I didn’t have a cute “mom” stamp either. To work around this obstacle, I printed the word MOM onto Calypso Coral cardstock and then cut out the heart using the hearts framelits set. On the Whisper White cardstock I used to stamp “You’re Peach Keen,” I took Crushed Curry ink and lightly stenciled some diagonal lines to give the stamped area some depth. The rest of the card is pretty self-explanatory.

PPA249: A Sketch Challenge

Another week has passed and it is time for PPA249: A Sketch Challenge:

One of my daughter’s friend will be married this July. She wanted me to make a wedding invitation using mint and plum as the base color combination. I came up with this design (using different names and a different date) for the invitation.

I can definitely say this color combo does not photograph well. I probably took eight pictures and I finally got the picture above this afternoon. At least you can tell (somewhat) I used Blackberry Bliss and not Basic Black as the accent color. If you’re wondering, I do have a light box along with lights, but the pictures turn out the best when I take them outside. Of course, my friend’s iPhone 6 takes the best pictures, which I do not own one.

PCCCS #140: Card Sketch

I liked my original design of a card letting the ladies know in my break-out bible study group that they are
“amazingly AMAZING.”  I decided to make another version of this design for the Paper Craft Crew Card Sketch Challenge #140 . You can view the original design as well as another card challenge which played off the original design here .

I truly recommend SU! Painted Petals as a very versatile stamp set to create a multitude of gorgeous cards. On this card challenge, I enlarged the circle from the original card, added a banner with a rose accent along with two pennant banners attached to the bottom of the sentiment banner. Easy Peasy – another great workshop demo card.

PPA248: A Sketch Challenge

This week’s PPA248 Sketch Challenge:

I had made cards for a group of ladies in my bible study break-out group for our end of study fellowship last night. I gave each lady in my group one of these cards:

The design for this card inspired me to translate it into the PPA248 Sketch Card Challenge. This is what I came up with:

PPA248 Card ChallengeThis was such a simple, but Amazing card to create. This would be a great workshop demonstration card featuring just a few of SU! great products. I took a piece of 4″ x 5 1/4″ Whisper White and stamped the striped image from the Painted Petals set in Elegant Eggplant horizontally; then, Daffodil Delight vertically. I added the tulips from Painted Petals to the bottom of the original mat (stems – Wild Wasabi and tulips – Strawberry Slush).  I cut a piece of 4″ x 2 3/4″ Elegant Eggplant to make a mat for the 3 7/8″ x 2 5/8″ Whisper White. I lined up the Whisper White piece with the green stems of the tulips on the main mat and stamped tulip stems onto the Whisper White (don’t forget to use a piece of typewriter paper as a mask – you don’t want to mess up your original mat). I then took the small tulip stems and stamped them across the bottom in Wild Wasabi to create a grass effect). I added some yellow (Daffodil Delight) tulips and some yellow flowers to the bottom Whisper White. I, then, stamped some flowers in Strawberry Slush and Daffodil Delight along with leaves in Wild Wasabi at the top of the card. I stamped the sentiment then cut it down with my SU! Trimmer and cut a “V” shape into each end to make the banner. I adhered the banner with SU! Dimensionals (uh-oh forgot to include them in the supply list), and there you have it!

Paper Craft Crew Card Sketch 139

I sat down this afternoon to complete a card for the Paper Craft Crew Card Sketch 139 Challenge. The design team created a lot of awesome samples to spur the imagination. The challenge sketch is below:

I wanted to have a Mother’s Day card to share with my group of stampers; so, to work I did go. I really, really, really, (did I say really???) love the Birthday Bash DSP and its color combinations. I just can’t get enough of Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive.. It just reminds me of summer. The sample sketch looks like a 6″ x 6″ card, but I whittled mine down to a 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ card. I wanted a fresh, clutter free card; therefore, I only stamped one large flower in Calypso Coral and accented the sentiment with a smaller flower in the same color. I accented the card with butterflies and diamond rhinestones tinted with a Blendabilities marker (Wild Wisteria – darkest color). I made a scallop oval mat for the sentiment by punching two oval scallops, cutting them in half (one vertical; the other horizontal). I then placed them behind the oval with the sentiment to create a border. If there was overlapping that showed, which it did, I trimmed off that portion of the scallop.

I think the card turned out just like I envisioned. I didn’t have a “Hot Mess” in this week’s challenge like I did in a challenge I entered last week. LOL

PPA247: A Color Challenge

This week’s Pal Paper Arts’ Challenge is (for me) a real challenge.  The challenge is to make a card featuring the following three colors:PPA247 A Color Challenge

The Pal Paper Arts design team made some wonderful cards using these colors. My favorite is Mike Funke’s card. He really nailed it.

Anyway, I decided to feature the Balloon Bash stamp set, and thus began the card making. I didn’t want to introduce any other colors besides the challenge colors (other than white) just to see if I could pull this off.  In my opinion, this is a hard challenge because the colors can almost look the same depending on the lighting.

I must say the “real” challenge was taking a picture that looked halfway like the card. I took outdoor pictures, indoor pictures (a lot of pictures), and I finally decided on this one. So, needless to say, the real challenge was getting a decent picture. LOL

Freshly Made Sketches 181

Here is the Freshly Made Sketches 181 sketch:

FMS Final 181-001I wanted to create a white mat on a white background for this challenge. I took the white mat and punched holes around the edges with my paper piercing tool and a piercing guide. I took the floral patch stamps and stamped two flowers along with some leaves; then, I accented them with a pearl. I took the Peachy Keen stamp set and created a border using Crisp Cantaloupe and stamped the word Hello with the ink as well.

PCCCS #138: Card Sketch

There are several card challenge websites I really like and Paper Craft Crew is one of them. Their challenge this week is

If you read my previous post regarding my last minute card challenge entry to Pals Paper Arts Card Challenge and how my first attempt at making the Very Vanilla mat stamped with SU! Dictionary stamp and two other stamp sets had turned into a Hot Mess of cluttered-ness, then you might recognize how I took a “Hot Mess” and used it in another card challenge.

I took the On Film die and strategically placed it to take advantage of my “mess.” I think it turned out rather well. From that starting point, I ran a piece of Pistachio Pudding through the Big Shot and embossed it with the retired embossing folder Script (not sure of the actual name) and brushed the edges with Pistachio Pudding ink. I matted it on SU! Mossy Meadow. I colored three rhinestones with the darkest of the Blendabilities Old Olive marker (in the picture, the light causes the rhinestones to reflect the Crisp Cantaloupe paper). I cut out the thanks in Mossy Meadow and Crisp Cantaloupe offsetting the Crisp Cantaloupe on the Mossy Meadow to give a shadow effect. I made the flower with the Boho Blossom punch. I punched four flowers out of the Crisp Cantaloupe; then, ran them through a crimper several times until I could pull them apart, I crumpled them up and uncrumpled them stacking them on top of each other. I punched the smaller of the flowers on the Boho Blossom punch out of the “Hot Mess” paper. I placed them all together, secured them with a brass brad (retired), and curled the petals around the brad. I lifted the frame and thanks up from the cardstock with dimensionals.

Note: As I lay awake this morning, Saturday, April 11th, I realized…I think I used Pear Pizzazz paper instead of Pistachio Pudding (that’s what I get for having sheets of paper outside of their wrapping).

PPA246: A Color Challenge

Another last minute card for the Pals Paper Arts Challenge.

This is what I mean by “last minute.” I started the card at 11:00 a.m. I had the Crumb Cake mat and the Very Vanilla mat stamped with the SU! Dictionary background stamp using Crumb Cake SU! ink. I stamped the flower and the leaves using Pistachio Pudding, Crisp Canteloupe, Wild Wasabi, and Calypso Coral SU! inks. I had originally stamped two sets of leaves and two flowers with the second flower in the same colors but stamping off before I stamped the finished flower. I tried placing them in various places, but I just wasn’t happy.

So, I then got the bright idea of stamping some leaves and one flower from SU! Shadow Silhouettes in Crumb Cake, Pistachio Pudding, and Crisp Canteloupe. What a mess! It just looked like a jumbled pile of cluttered-ness.

By this time it is 11:36 a.m. I’ll never make the deadline! O.k., o.k., o.k. What can I do to make this card look good. I know, I’ll put a sentiment on there, but which one. I first tried the other sentiment in SU! Flower Patch. I wanted to stamp a solid space of Pistachio Pudding and then ink the sentiment in Wild Wasabi; I would then use a die to cut out the sentiment in the shape I had chosen. Well, that just looked like a Hot Mess!

Working backwards here; the time is 11:43 a.m. I found the die I wanted to use and the other sentiment in the Flower Patch set worked. I first stamped it in Crumb Cake ink onto Crumb Cake – not. How’z about I just cut out the shape on the Very Vanilla stamped mat and stamp the words in Crisp Canteloupe; adhere to the card using SU! dimensionals. Done! Let’s place a flower and some leaves to accent the cut out. Done! Uh-oh, I could only find one set of leaves (I’m sure the other one is floating around my desk somewhere amongst all the creative explosion). I think some pearl accents will make the center of the flower pop. Oh My Goodness, they came off without the adhesive (I tried a fine tip glue pen – dried up) finally resorted to some good ol’ Snail adhesive. It is now, 11:52 a.m.

I grab the camera and the card. Run out to the front porch in my pajamas. LOL Take two pictures, grab the card, run back inside and start loading the pictures onto the computer. Did I mention it takes forever for my camera to updoad pictures???? So, while the upload is taking its time, I put in a short post with the mention of the challenge, etc, etc. according to the challenge rules. I’m ready for the picture. It still isn’t loaded. It is now, 11:56 a.m. AAAAHHHHhhh!

They are uploaded. I copy the two pictures I had taken and paste them to my blog file folder. I already have the photo software up and running. I crop and straighten the picture, save it. Go to my blog upload the picture and place it into the blog. Open my website and the actual page with the card challenge, copy the link, click the tab with Pals Paper Arts click on InLinkz to upload my card challenge to the website. Hit done, done, and it is DONE! The time is 11:59 a.m. (since my computer doesn’t track seconds for me, I’m sure I only had a few seconds left before the challenge closed). As I’m typing this previous sentence, I had a thought (astounding), what if their clock is not on the same time as mine. WHAT!!!!???? I have just clicked on the link and my card is there. Whew!
